グリーンキーが評価するのは運営管理であり、CO₂排出量ではありません。プールと空調を備えた大型ホテルが認証を保持しながら、同じ通りの無認証のペンションより宿泊者1人あたりのエネルギー消費が大きい場合もあります。評価されるのは資源を意識的に管理しているかどうかで、環境負荷の絶対量ではありません。また配点は書類の整備を重く見るため、記録の整ったホテルが、目立たないながら実質的に優れたホテルを上回ることもあります。
